کلمه Into یکی از حروف اضافه (Prepositions) در انگلیسی است که در ابتدا کلمه‌ای ساده به نظر می رسد، اما پیچیدگی‌های خاص خودش را دارد. کلمه Into رابطه بین دو کلمه (که به طور معمول ضمایر و اسم‌ها هستند) را در یک جمله نشان می‌دهد.

یک روش برای اینکه آیا می‌توانید از into در این معنی استفاده کنید یا نه، این است که into به همراه فعل را با فعل enter جایگزین کنید و اگر معنای جمله تغییر نکرد، از کلمه Into در این معنی به درستی استفاده کردید.

.She walked into the room. = She entered the room

.The cat jumped into the box. = The cat entered the box

.They went into the lake. = They entered the lake

اما روش بالا همیشه جواب‌گو نیست. در مثال‌های زیر جایگزین کردن کلمه کمک‌کننده نخواهد بود:

کلمه Into در مقابل In to

یکی از گیج کننده‌ترین قسمت‌ها در مورد کلمه into این است که دقیقاً شبیه دو کلمه in to به نظر می‌رسد. حال چگونه تفاوت این دو را تشخیص دهیم؟

کلمه Into یک حرف اضافه است، بنابراین همیشه رابطه بین دو کلمه را نشان می دهد. In to یک Verb phrase است، بنابراین حرکت (Movement) را نشان می‌دهد.
